LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court has cancelled the cause list containing post-arrest bail petitions of PTI’s founding chairman, Imran Khan, in eight cases related to the May 9 riots due to the unavailability of Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi.
Justice Rizvi was heading the division bench hearing the bail matters. The second member of the bench is Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh.
It is pertinent to mention that the LHC division bench had previously adjourned the hearing of Imran Khan’s bail petitions to April 23, after the case records were not produced before the court.
Imran had filed post-arrest bail petitions in eight different cases related to the May 9 riots that ensued after his arrest.
The former premier approached the LHC questioning what he termed unlawful and politically motivated cases.
He contended that he had been deliberately implicated in these “forged and false” cases despite having no involvement whatsoever.
Drawing the court’s attention to key points, he submitted that the prosecution had offered divergent stances regarding the date, time and place of the alleged abetment and other charges, rendering these cases ones of “further inquiry”.
