India’s WPI inflation eases to 2.05% in March 2025

The annual rate of inflation based on all India wholesale price index (WPI) number is 2.05 per cent (provisional) for the month of March 2025 (over January 2024), compared to 2.38 per cent registered in the previous month, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The month-over-month change in WPI for the month of March 2025 stood at -0.19 per cent as compared to February 2025.

India’s WPI eased to 2.05 per cent in March from 2.38 per cent in February, with the overall index slipping to 154.5.
Month-on-month, WPI fell by 0.19 per cent.
The moderation was driven by declines in primary articles and fuel prices, although prices rose in food products, electricity, and textiles.
The index for manufactured products increased to 144.4, with notable gains in textiles and apparel.

“Positive rate of inflation in March 2025 is primarily due to increase in prices of manufacture of food products, other manufacturing, food articles, electricity and manufacture of textiles etc,” the Office of the Economic Adviser, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, said.

The official WPI for all commodities (Base: 2011-12 = 100) for March decreased slightly to 154.5 from 154.8 in the previous month.

The index for manufactured products (weight 64.23 per cent) increased to 144.4 in March 2025 from 143.8 for the month of February 2025. The index for ‘Manufacture of Textiles’ sub-group was 136.6 in March, while the index for ‘Manufacture of Wearing Apparel’ was 154.5.

The index for primary articles (weight 22.62 per cent) decreased by 1.07 per cent to 184.6 in March from 186.6 for the month of February, while that for fuel and power (weight 13.15 per cent) decreased by 0.91 per cent to 152.4 in March from 153.8 for the month of February.
