EU industrial producer prices up 0.4% MoM, down 3% YoY in Oct 2024



EU industrial producer prices up 0.4% MoM, down 3% YoY in Oct 2024

In October 2024, industrial producer prices increased by 0.4 per cent in both euro area and the European Union (EU) compared to September 2024, according to first estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. The euro area witnessed a decrease of 3.2 per cent year-over-year (YoY) in October, meanwhile EU saw decline of 3.0 per cent YoY in the same month.

Monthly, prices for intermediate goods fell by 0.1 per cent month-over-month (MoM) in both regions, while energy prices rose by 1.4 per cent in the euro area and 1.1 per cent in the EU, compared to September. Prices for capital goods remained stable, while durable and non-durable consumer goods saw increases of 0.3 per cent and 0.2 per cent, respectively, in both areas. Excluding energy, total industry prices remained stable.

In October 2024, industrial producer prices rose 0.4 per cent MoM in both the euro area and EU but fell 3.2 per cent and 3.0 per cent YoY, respectively.
Energy prices increased MoM but dropped sharply YoY.
Prices for capital and consumer goods rose, while intermediate goods declined.
Slovakia (-20.4 per cent) saw the largest annual drop, while Czechia (+0.8 per cent) led gains.

Estonia and Italy both at (+1.0 per cent), France (+0.9 per cent), and Sweden (+0.8 per cent) recorded the highest monthly increases, while Bulgaria (-2.9 per cent), Slovakia (-2.0 per cent), and Romania (-1.5 per cent) saw the largest decreases on monthly comparisons.

Annually, energy prices dropped by 11.2 per cent in the euro area and 10.2 per cent in the EU, while prices for intermediate goods fell by 0.5 per cent and 0.6 per cent, respectively. However, prices for capital goods, durable consumer goods, and non-durable consumer goods increased by 1.3 per cent, 0.7 per cent, and 1.8 per cent in the euro area, and by 1.5 per cent, 0.4 per cent, and 1.7 per cent in the EU respectively. Excluding energy, total industry prices rose by 0.8 per cent in the euro area and 0.7 per cent in the EU.

Slovakia (-20.4 per cent), Luxembourg (-6.4 per cent), and France (-5.7 per cent) experienced the largest annual price decreases, while Czechia (+0.8 per cent), Malta (+0.7 per cent), and Sweden (+0.4 per cent) saw the highest increases, while compared annually.
