Cotton yarn prices down in north India; comber recovers

Cotton yarn prices in north India persistently declined due to weak demand. The prices in Ludhiana and Delhi markets saw a reduction of ₹2-5 per kg. Amidst this situation, cotton yarn traders remain uncertain about the possibility of price recovery. Nevertheless, spinning mills have been striving to sustain the prices. A similar pattern was observed in the recycled yarn market of Panipat, where yarn prices remained stable. Sellers and mills were hesitant to attract buyers by reducing prices. Concurrently, the price of cotton comber experienced a slight increase due to slow supply from the spinners.

The Ludhiana market has seen a decline of ₹2 per kg in cotton yarn prices, reflecting bearish market sentiment as buyers remained scarce. A trader from the Ludhiana market told Fibre2Fashion, “The demand for cotton yarn has not improved. Despite the losses, mills and stockists have reduced prices by ₹2 per kg.” The 30 count cotton combed yarn was traded at ₹262-272 per kg (inclusive of GST); 20 and 25 count combed yarn were sold at ₹252-257 per kg and ₹257-262 per kg respectively, while the 30 count carded yarn was recorded at ₹242-252 per kg, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro.

Cotton yarn prices across north India declined due to weak demand, with significant drops in Ludhiana and Delhi.
Panipat’s recycled yarn market experienced a slight recovery in cotton comber prices due to reduced production.
Mills continue to limit the supply of comber, resulting in increased prices.
Cotton prices remained steady due to limited arrivals.

Cotton yarn prices in the Delhi market also saw a decline of ₹2-5 per kg. The weaving industry has been purchasing cotton yarn in minimal quantities due to uncertainty regarding the recovery of garment purchasing. A trader from Delhi informed F2F, “The market condition remains weak. Mills and traders are striving to avoid losses in the face of dwindling demand. However, some traders remain hopeful for improved export orders towards the end of June and in July.” The 30 count combed yarn was traded at ₹260-265 per kg (excluding GST), 40 count combed at ₹285-295 per kg, 30 count carded at ₹237-242 per kg, and the 40 count carded yarn was recorded at ₹267-270 per kg, according to TexPro.

Panipat’s recycled yarn market also registered a recovery in cotton comber prices due to diminished production and supply from spinners. However, the prices of recycled yarn remained stable as mills were not willing to further decrease their prices.

Trade sources said that mills have further decreased the production of cotton comber yarn, resulting in a lower supply of comber. Consequently, its prices have increased by ₹4-5 to ₹125-126 per kg. The 10s recycled PC yarn (grey) was traded at ₹80-85 per kg (excluding GST). The 10s recycled PC yarn (black) was traded at ₹50-55 per kg, 20s recycled PC yarn (grey) at ₹95-100 per kg, and the 30s recycled PC yarn (grey) at ₹140-145 per kg. In the past week, comber prices have dropped by ₹10 per kg and were traded today at ₹125-126 per kg. The recycled polyester fibre (made from PET bottles) was noted at ₹68-70 per kg in the Panipat market.

Cotton prices in north India remained steady due to limited arrivals and demand. Traders have noted that buyers show little interest in new purchases. The low rate of arrivals can be attributed to adverse weather conditions and the end of the season. The farmers’ stock is anticipated to deplete as the arrival season comes to an end. Cloudy, and rainy weather further discouraged the arrival of new stock. The arrivals were recorded at 2,500 bales of 170 kg each. Cotton was traded at ₹5,800-5,900 per maund in Punjab, ₹5,725-5,825 per maund in Haryana, and ₹6,050-6,175 per maund in upper Rajasthan and at ₹55,300-57,300 per candy (356 kg) in lower Rajasthan. Cotton prices lingered near their previous closing levels.
