IHG Hotels & Resorts has partnered with Minami Nijo Operations, a World Brands Collection Hotels & Resorts subsidiary, to open the second Holiday Inn & Suites in Japan. The hotel will be located in Sapporo and will be owned by a fund managed by Goldman Sachs.

IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced plans to open a second Holiday Inn & Suites, in partnership with Minami Nijo Operations, a World Brands Collection Hotels & Resorts subsidiary. The 195-room Holiday Inn & Suites Sapporo Odori Park is slated to open in late 2025, following a comprehensive refurbishment of an existing property.

The renovation will include upgrading all guest rooms, adding a gym, and creating a new lobby café, following Holiday Inn’s Open Lobby concept. In this design-led flexible space, guests can relax and socialize.

This new addition will join over 1,200 Holiday Inn hotels and resorts worldwide, including eight others in Japan.

The Holiday Inn & Suites Sapporo Odori Park is located at the end of the famous Tanukikoji Shopping Street in the bustling downtown Susukino area and is within walking distance to Odori Park, a popular venue for numerous events.

The capital of Hokkaido, Sapporo, is a thriving metropolis known for its scenic beauty, fresh seafood, and year-round events such as the annual Sapporo Snow Festival. The Hokkaido region has seen a surge in popularity among international tourists, with a 40% increase in 2024 compared to 2019. Additionally, international weekly flights to the region surpassed 2019 levels for the first time during the first quarter of 2025.

In addition to standard rooms, Holiday Inn & Suites Sapporo Odori Park will offer suites and a range of facilities, including meeting spaces, a restaurant, and a public bath on the hotel’s upper floor.

IHG Hotels & Resorts operates five hotels in Hokkaido across three brands: Vignette Collection, Crowne Plaza, and Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts. The group anticipates the debut of the InterContinental brand in the area later this year with the opening of InterContinental Sapporo. Across Japan, IHG operates 52 hotels across 10 brands, with 14 more hotels in the pipeline.
