The Holiday Inn brand will make a comeback in Townsville, Australia, thanks to a collaboration between IHG Hotels & Resorts and Luxora Hotels. This move is part of IHG’s ongoing expansion strategy in Queensland.
The property, located at the intersection of Stanley Street and Flinders Street in the heart of Townsville’s CBD, will undergo comprehensive renovation to transform into the Holiday Inn Townsville by early 2026. The hotel’s location is near the Queensland Country Bank Stadium, Queensland Tropics Museum, and Townsville Yacht Club, which positions it to serve both domestic and international visitors.
With 93 rooms, the refurbished Holiday Inn Townsville will house a contemporary all-day dining restaurant and a sizeable conference and event facility. The hotel will also feature the ‘Open Lobby’ concept of Holiday Inn – a dynamic, flexible space that combines dining, social, and work areas.
This introduction of the Holiday Inn brand in Townsville is part of IHG’s broader expansion strategy in Queensland. This region is experiencing a growth phase, and the planned Olympic events in Townsville will further enhance its economic and tourism landscape. The city also serves as a strategic hub for mining, energy, and defence industries, making it a thriving business destination.
Holiday Inn Townsville is expected to positively contribute to the region’s tourism and business sectors. The project is a collaboration with Luxora Hotels, and La Vie Hotels and Resorts will operate the hotel.
IHG Hotels & Resorts operates 76 hotels under nine brands in Australasia. These brands include Six Senses, InterContinental, Kimpton, Vignette Collection, Hotel Indigo, voco, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, and Holiday Inn Express. Additionally, 26 more properties are in the pipeline for development.
