The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has reportedly approved the construction of two new international airports in Sukkur and Muzaffarabad, with work on both projects expected to be completed within five years.

The PAA has formed a committee to oversee land acquisition for the new sites, sources said. Preliminary work has already commenced under the supervision of PAA’s Works and Development Department.

Sources said the Rs 2 billion projects aim to expand regional connectivity and strengthen the country’s aviation infrastructure. Technical consultants and external experts will be engaged to support the design and construction phases.

Sukkur International Airport is expected to serve the upper Sindh region, while Muzaffarabad International Airport will improve air access to Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Both airports are seen as key infrastructure investments by the federal government.

The announcement follows a recent order by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to conduct a feasibility study for an additional international airport in Mirpur. The study was prompted by a letter from British Members of Parliament addressed to the premier.
