Amid rising tensions with India, a prominent political leader Faisal Vawda has called for national unity and the revival of the National Action Plan (NAP) as a unified response to what has been described as “false propaganda” originating from New Delhi.
Speaking in response to recent developments from across the border, Vawda emphasised that national solidarity must come before all else, stating, “Pakistan comes first—everything else follows. We are united.”
He urged the government to convene a formal hearing on the National Action Plan, involving leadership from all political parties, including the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), in order to send a strong and unified message to the international community.
“This will demonstrate to the world that Pakistan no longer operates on political expediencies, and that the entire nation and its communities are standing firmly behind the armed forces and in defiance of any external threats,” the official said.
Warning against any hostile actions based on misinformation, the statement cautioned India that any move rooted in “lies and deceit” would be met with a strong and potentially dangerous response, as has been the case in the past.
His statement comes as India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan in the aftermath of a deadly attack in Pahalgam, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), that killed 26 tourists and injured 17 others.
The attack, which police said injured another 17 people, took place in Pahalgam — a tourist hotspot that draws thousands of visitors every summer.
At least 26 people were killed, all men, when gunmen opened fire on visitors in a popular destination, AFP reported, citing a hospital list of the dead that was verified by police. It was the region’s deadliest attack on civilians since 2000.
