The Sindh irrigation department on Thursday sent a fresh letter — its second in 48 hours – to the Indus River System Authority (Irsa), urging the immediate closure of the Taunsa Panjnad (TP) Link Canal to prevent water shortages in the province.
The growing controversy over canal operations intensified after Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah strongly criticised the Punjab government for diverting increased water to the TP Link Camal. In response, Irsa maintained that all decisions were made in accordance with the law.
On Tuesday, the Sindh Irrigation Department wrote to Irsa, calling for a halt in the transfer of water from the Indus River to the Jhelum-Chenab system.
