One sad graphic that shows every Canadian team’s Stanley Cup playoff run since 1994

Five of the seven Canadian hockey teams in the NHL made it to the playoffs this year, marking the most CanCon in the post-season since 2017, and hopes are high that will translate into Canada bringing Lord Stanley home.

For some fans, this year’s playoff run for the home teams might carry political significance, much like the Four Nations Hockey Tournament did, as tensions from the U.S.-Canada trade war continue to simmer.

Last season, after defeating the Edmonton Oilers in a tense Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, the Florida Panthers drank from hockey’s holy grail — stretching Canada’s championship drought a year longer.

This season marks 32 years since the Cup last called Canada home. In that time, a Canadian team has reached the final just seven times.

Here’s a look back at every Canadian team’s playoff run since 1994 — the year after the Cup was lifted by the Montreal Canadiens.
