Woman opens fire in road rage incident in Karachi; both drivers arrested

A minor traffic accident in Karachi’s Isa Nagar area escalated when a woman opened fire in response to a collision, leading to her arrest and a police investigation.

According to Express News, the incident took place late Friday night around 1 a.m., when a truck collided with a luxury car. In a fit of rage, the woman, identified as Alesha Amir, exited her vehicle, pulled out a 9mm pistol, and fired shots into the air.

The gunfire caused panic in the area, prompting the truck driver, Zafar Iqbal, to seek refuge behind nearby police officers.

The police quickly responded to the scene and took both individuals into custody. Alesha Amir and the truck driver were both named in a single FIR. Upon investigation, it was revealed that the woman’s firearm license had expired.

The police reported that the accident occurred when the truck side-swiped the luxury car. Amir’s reckless actions escalated the situation, causing fear among bystanders. While the truck driver fled to safety, police arrived swiftly to apprehend both parties involved.

Upon being detained, Alesha presented her firearm license, but authorities found that it was outdated, prompting additional legal action.

The police have filed charges under Section 337 of the Pakistan Penal Code for the woman’s reckless firing, and further sections of the arms laws for possessing an expired weapon license.

Both Alesha and Zafar Iqbal were taken to the women’s police station and the PIB police station, respectively, and their vehicles were impounded. They were later presented in court, where they were remanded in custody.

The incident highlights ongoing issues in Karachi with the unchecked movement of heavy vehicles like trucks and dumpers, which have been a source of concern for local residents.

According to welfare organizations, over 150 fatalities have occurred in Karachi due to traffic accidents in the first two months of the year, many involving large vehicles.
