The Economic Outlook Survey by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) projects an annual median gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 6.4 per cent for fiscal 2024-25 (FY25).

The latest forecast marks a moderation from 7-per cent estimate for FY25 put out in the previous round conducted during the month of September 2024.

The latest FICCI Economic Outlook Survey projects an annual median GDP growth of 6.4 per cent for FY25 in India.
The industrial sector is projected to expand by 6.3 per cent in the fiscal.
Economic activity is expected to witness an uptick in the second half of this fiscal backed by a revival in public capital expenditure, festive demand and normalisation in industrial activity post monsoon.

The numbers are in line with the broad expectations and reflect a notable slowdown compared to 8.2-per cent GDP growth recorded in FY24, a FICCI release noted.

The agricultural sector, including allied activities, is expected to grow at 3.6 per cent in FY25. The industrial sector is projected to expand by 6.3 per cent in the fiscal.

Economic activity is expected to witness an uptick in the second half of this fiscal backed by a revival in public capital expenditure, festive demand and normalisation in industrial activity post monsoon.

Consumer price index-based inflation has a median forecast of 4.8 per cent for this fiscal. This is in line with the central bank’s projection in the latest monetary policy announcement in December last year.

On the investment front, the government’s focus on capital expenditure is expected to remain a key growth driver in FY26. Investments in infrastructure and allied sectors are anticipated to further economic momentum.

Downside risks include expected subdued private capital expenditure cycle, with a cautious outlook limiting large-scale capacity additions.
