Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, will invest over $72.8 million in a new Advanced Materials Development Center at its Shizuoka site, bringing total investment to $124.8 million since 2021.
Opening in 2026, the AMDC will enhance R&D in semiconductor materials, promote sustainability, and support global electronics growth through innovation and collaboration.

Building upon its established Patterning Center of Excellence in Shizuoka, the company’s new AMDC will enable the development of cutting-edge solutions for the latest semiconductor nodes and innovative materials that meet stringent environmental standards. By expanding facilities and consolidating critical R&D activities, the company aims to accelerate innovation, improve efficiency, and better support customer needs.
