IHG Hotels & Resorts has bolstered its Crowne Plaza brand in Australia by opening two new hotels in Adelaide Mawson Lakes and Sydney Airport. These openings are part of a broader expansion plan, with three more hotels scheduled to open within the next year.
The two new Crowne Plaza hotels in Adelaide and Sydney join the growing network across the Asia Pacific region. Over 90 new Crowne Plaza hotels are currently in development, including two in Southeast Asia.
The Crowne Plaza Adelaide Mawson Lakes, the first premium hotel in northern Adelaide, adds to IHG’s five existing regional hotels. Located in the rapidly developing area of Mawson Lakes, the 155-room hotel boasts convenient access to the city’s central business district and attractions in the Barossa Valley. The hotel’s guestrooms are designed to cater to the modern traveler with a blend of business and leisure amenities. The hotel also features Ember & Vine restaurant, which focuses on stone cooking and locally sourced ingredients, and the Aviator Bar, offering patrons panoramic views of the Adelaide Hills and Parafield Airport. Additionally, the hotel provides four conference and event spaces for private functions and events.
Meanwhile, the Crowne Plaza Sydney Airport, the first Crowne Plaza-branded hotel in an airport location in Australia, offers a new take on airport accommodation. The hotel has recently undergone an AUD$15 million refurbishment. The 252-room hotel now features a redesigned ground floor reception and a refreshed, modern look in all guestrooms. Dining options at the hotel are currently being revamped to align with the latest trends and are set to relaunch soon. Guests can access a gym, sauna, 24-hour room service, and six meeting and event spaces.
Looking ahead, IHG plans to continue expanding the Crowne Plaza brand with three more hotels set to open in 2025. These include the Crowne Plaza Macquarie Park, Crowne Plaza Melbourne Carlton, and Crowne Plaza Shell Cove Marina. In 2026, the Crowne Plaza Geelong is also expected to open as part of the Plenary Group’s Geelong Convention and Exhibition Centre development project.
