Hotel Indigo, a part of IHG Hotels & Resorts, has expanded its presence in Japan with the opening of Hotel Indigo Nagasaki Glover Street on 13 December 2024. This marks Japan’s fifth Hotel Indigo property and the first in the Kyushu region.

The Hotel Indigo Nagasaki Glover Street is situated in the vibrant Minamiyamate area of Nagasaki, a locale known for its colorful and exotic atmosphere. The hotel has repurposed a 19th-century redbrick building, adding a unique dimension to the city’s hotel landscape.

The hotel’s opening was marked by an “Open the Umbrella” ribbon-cutting ceremony, symbolizing its connection with Nagasaki’s history and its readiness to step into the future. The ceremony featured local umbrellas decorated with Nagasaki-themed patterns, paying homage to Nagasaki, where Western-style umbrellas were first introduced in Japan.

The hotel is close to several cultural landmarks, including the “Old Glover Residence,” a World Heritage Site, and the national treasure “Oura Tenshudo.” In line with Hotel Indigo’s commitment to embracing local culture, the design of the 66 guestrooms and the hotel’s lobby area is inspired by the town’s lively atmosphere and history. The hotel’s restaurant, Cathedréclat, is in a former cathedral with 10-meter-high ceilings and stained-glass windows.

Hotel Indigo Nagasaki Glover Street embodies the “Wa-Ka-Ran Labyrinth” philosophy, which merges the individual uniqueness of Japan (Wa), China (Ka), and the Netherlands (Ran) to create a distinct cultural blend. This philosophy is evident throughout the city, from festivals to local clothing, sights, food, and the hotel’s ambiance.

Hotel Indigo is known for its unique properties, which draw inspiration from the local culture of their locations. The hotel brand operates 162 hotels worldwide and is the second-largest brand within IHG’s Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio. Continuing its global expansion, Hotel Indigo is set to enter new markets in 2025, with properties in Palau and Auckland.

Guests can take advantage of the IHG One Rewards program, which offers opportunities to earn and redeem points across IHG Hotels & Resorts.
