The La Bahia Hotel & Spa, a 155-room oceanfront resort, is set to open in Santa Cruz, California, in the summer of 2025. The new hotel is now accepting reservations for stays starting in the late summer of the same year.
La Bahia Hotel & Spa’s history traces back to the 1920s when esteemed architect and UC Berkeley professor William C. Hays designed it. Originally a series of apartments and a small hotel, the building was known for its Juliet balconies, vibrant courtyards, and sun-drenched tile. Now, it’s been transformed into a luxury hotel that seeks to blend the charm of the past with the modern traveler’s needs.
The new hotel design by ForrestPerkins draws inspiration from a seaside Mediterranean escape. It includes a historic bell tower, a long-standing symbol of Santa Cruz’s beachfront, which has been restored and incorporated into the new design. The hotel will feature 155 rooms, including 16 suites, all offering ocean views and modern amenities such as plush robes, luxury bath products, and Nespresso Vertuo Machines.
La Bahia plans to offer four dining experiences, including its signature restaurant, High Tide, focusing on Pacific Rim-inspired cuisine. Other dining options include Low Tide Bar & Grill, Pearl Champagne Bar, and Plunge, a poolside bar.
The Spa at La Bahia aims to set new standards for wellness in Santa Cruz. It will feature indoor and outdoor treatment rooms, a sauna with views of Monterey Bay, steam rooms, and a rooftop zen deck. The hotel will also offer over 13,000 square feet of event space, including a 4,000-square-foot ballroom and a rooftop deck with panoramic views of the Pacific and the Redwood Mountains.
Guests of La Bahia will also have access to beach recliners and umbrellas, a beach butler service, and bike rentals. Nearby attractions include the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Natural Bridges of Monarch Trail, Henry Cowell State Park, local wineries and breweries, the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History, Santa Cruz Wharf, and Walton Lighthouse. The hotel aims to honor the rich culture and spirit of Santa Cruz while providing a luxury experience for travelers. More information or bookings can be made via the hotel’s website.
