Archer, 29, recently returned to action, following a long injury lay-off, playing in the white ball series in the West Indies. At the 2022 mega auction Mumbai Indians had shelled out INR 8 crore (USD 1.06 million approx. then) on Archer even though the England fast bowler had just undergone elbow surgery at the time and was not expected to be fit for that season. Partly, the high price tag had to do with Archer winning the IPL’s player of the tournament award in 2020-21 season, which was played in the UAE, when he represented Rajasthan Royals. Overall for Mumbai, Archer played five matches across two seasons (2022-23) before being released.
