A recent study by Upgraded Points revealed significant price increases travelers can expect when booking Airbnb accommodations during the holiday season. The study, which compared the nightly rental costs during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s to the average rates, found a whopping average increase of 64%.
Cities like Madison, Wisconsin; Fort Myers, Florida; Las Vegas, Nevada; Tampa, Florida; and San Jose, California, proved to be the most expensive, with holiday rates exceeding 100% of usual prices. On the contrary, cities like Los Angeles, California; Bakersfield, California; San Diego, California; Washington, D.C.; and San Francisco, California had the lowest price increases.
The study also highlighted the cities with the highest Airbnb rates during specific holidays.
For Thanksgiving week, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Madison, Wisconsin; and Columbus, Ohio, topped the list with price increases exceeding 115%.
For Christmas week, coastal destinations like Fort Myers, Florida; Sarasota, Florida; and Honolulu, Hawaii, saw rates more than double.
Finally, for New Year’s week, cities like Fort Myers, Florida; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Tampa, Florida, saw price hikes exceeding 120%.
