Doctor Who Reveals Christmas Special First Look

San Diego Comic-Con might be sweltering in the blistering summer heat right now, but Doctor Who doesn’t care about right now. It’s already Christmas for our favorite Time Lord, and that means it’s time for us to get a sneak glimpse at the 15th Doctor’s next adventure.

Called “Joy to the World” and written by returning former showrunner (no, not that one) Steven Moffat, the Christmas special stars Bridgerton‘s Nicola Coughlan. It sees the 15th Doctor flying solo for the first time since last year’s Christmas special, “The Church on Ruby Road.” Although apparently not for long, according to the time-hopping clip introduced by Coughlan herself at Doctor Who‘s Hall H panel at Comic-Con, which introduces us to Joy, the Doctor’s never-ending quest to deliver a ham and cheese toastie with a pumpkin spice latte, and the surprising return of a familiar Doctor Who species. Check it out below:

It’s an interesting twist, considering we just got the news of Doctor Who spinoff The War Between Land and Sea, focusing on the Sea Devils. The Silurians and Sea Devils as separate evolutionary branches of the species who roamed Earth before humanity have always had a kinship in Doctor Who history, despite showing up in more stories separate from each other than not–they only ever actually teamed up once on-screen, in the 1984 serial “Warriors of the Deep”. Between Christmas and a spinoff, things are looking up for our reptilian and amphibian Doctor Who baddies.

Doctor Who returns to BBC One and the BBC iPlayer in the UK, and Disney+ internationally, this Christmas.
