In the Surat market of Gujarat, poly spun yarn prices continued to show an upward trend. The 30 count poly spun yarn increased to ₹142-143 per kg (excluding GST), while the 40 count poly spun yarn reached ₹158-159 per kg, with prices rising by ₹1-2 per kg. Viscose yarn experienced a steep increase of ₹5-7 per kg due to low supply from Tamil Nadu, with the 30 count viscose yarn trading at ₹206-207 per kg.
India’s polyester spun yarn prices are up due to rising demand and high raw material costs, with poly spun yarn prices increasing by ₹1-2 per kg in Ludhiana and Surat.
Viscose yarn has also seen a steep increase due to supply shortages.
North Indian cotton prices stabilized following a previous easing, with traders noting a balance between demand and supply.
“There was demand for poly spun yarn and recent increases in polyester fibre and upstream raw materials supported market sentiments. Viscose yarn production declined due to labour shortages, as Muslim workers took leave for Ramadan,” a trader from Surat told Fibre2Fashion.
Polyester spun yarn prices in the Ludhiana market were higher by ₹1-2 per kg, driven by strong raw material costs. Demand from the downstream industry is also expected to rise. A trader from Ludhiana told Fibre2Fashion, “Weavers and garment units will shift focus from summer to winter clothing, leading to increased demand for poly spun and polyester-cotton yarn.” The 30 count poly spun yarn was priced at ₹156-164 per kg (including GST) in Ludhiana, with prices gaining ₹3-5 per kg in the last fortnight. However, 30 count PC combed yarn (48/52) remained steady at ₹217-230 per kg (including GST) in Ludhiana, as per Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro. The 30 count PC carded yarn (65/35) was stable at ₹202-212 per kg, while recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) was noted at ₹77-79 per kg.
Reliance further increased the prices of purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and MELT for the current week, while the rates of monoethylene glycol (MEG) remained unchanged. RIL set the prices at ₹89.70 per kg for PTA (an increase of ₹2.50), ₹53.20 per kg for MEG (a decrease of ₹3.30), and ₹95.23 per kg for MELT (an increase of ₹2.15). Earlier, the company had raised the price of polyester staple fibre (PSF) by ₹2 to ₹108 per kg for this fortnight.
North Indian cotton prices stabilised following a previous easing. Trade sources indicated that the market experienced average demand alongside a stable supply. There was a balance between the demand and supply of cotton fibre. Cotton arrivals in North India reached 9,000 bales of 170 kg each. The prices were ₹6,260-6,360 per maund in Punjab and Haryana, and ₹6,470-6,570 per maund in upper Rajasthan and ₹60,500-62,500 per candy of 356 kg in lower Rajasthan.
