U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 1.00% By Investing.com

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the gained 1.00%, while the index added 1.42%, and the index climbed 1.79%.

The best performers of the session on the were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:), which rose 7.61% or 2.23 points to trade at 31.52 at the close. Meanwhile, American Express Company (NYSE:) added 2.75% or 4.38 points to end at 163.59 and The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:) was up 2.40% or 3.98 points to 169.86 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:), which fell 1.27% or 5.99 points to trade at 466.59 at the close. Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:) declined 0.58% or 0.61 points to end at 104.92 and JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:) was up 0.20% or 0.26 points to 129.14.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were SVB Financial Group (OTC:) which rose 142.50% to 0.97, Signature Bank (OTC:) which was up 84.62% to settle at 0.24 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:) which gained 7.61% to close at 31.52.

The worst performers were PVH Corp (NYSE:) which was down 3.53% to 85.24 in late trade, Bath & Body Works Inc. (NYSE:) which lost 2.08% to settle at 37.25 and Zoetis Inc (NYSE:) which was down 1.42% to 162.69 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Troika Media Group Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 49.50% to 0.30, G Medical Innovations Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:) which was up 42.33% to settle at 2.69 and LogicMark Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 39.19% to close at 0.19.

The worst performers were ProQR Therapeutics NV (NASDAQ:) which was down 29.61% to 2.52 in late trade, Pieris Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 28.38% to settle at 1.06 and Shift Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:) which was down 27.38% to 1.22 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2373 to 642 and 90 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2396 rose and 1197 declined, while 137 ended unchanged.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 4.26% to 19.12.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.43% or 8.50 to $1,981.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.49% or 0.36 to hit $72.84 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.92% or 0.72 to trade at $77.42 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.02% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 1.53% to 132.87.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 102.32.
